The ten short stories presented in this book represent unique situations that are both riveting and emotional. Some readers will laugh at the English slang used in The Cruise.  Others wiil cry at a little boy's heartbreak  (Heartbroken) and wonder how a determined detective will solve a sixteen year old murder case. (What Happened to Robert Atkins) This read had bridged the generation gap.  (Mutt and the Enlightned One) a tale about a dog and the little boy who loves him.  (A Lost Love) featuring a romance that started during WorldWar ll.

The twenty-two short scripts included are snapshots from my life as a child and a father. Many have appeared in columns I write for various newspapers.

As in many of my yarns you will find the unexpected with numerous twists and turns. "Don't Take It From Me" and "The Thirteenth Jurist" will take you places you'd never expect. In the "Treasure Of Washo Resevior" two armored car guards drive off into the sunset with the day's collections from several Nevada casinos and disappear with no trace, until fifty-eight years later.

                              A GIRL NAMED JANE

Jane Robinson was the fruit of a permissive subculture; she was also the victim of an indifferent society. Guardianship, in the care of Family Services does not provide the utilitarian atmosphere intended. Instead, it leaves her bitter and distrustful of authority.

The men Jane chose to love have a common denominator; they resent authority and ignore the rules of society. One relationship ends tragically while another introduces a violent stalker into her life, which motivates an identity change.

While pursuing her dream of finding her birth mother and reuniting with her “adopted”
sister, Jane’s life takes on a dramatic twist when a chance meeting with Terry Kelley initiates her affiliation with organized crime.

A Girl Named Jane was a riveting coming-of-age saga with lots of suspense. The character-driven plot was sensational, as it kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. Except for a few typos, the book was outstanding.

This review is from: A Girl Named Jane (Kindle Edition)

I thought this was an easy read and the story was great. I really rooted for Jane and I loved the end. I certainly hope we see another book from Mr. Shanahan as his style is great and he really knows how to tell a story. I recommend this book for all.

Review by Jennifer Zuna (Jenns Review Blog)

This was an exceptional coming of age story. I have read the authors other book and couldn't wait to read this one. The book starts out a little slowly at first but the pace picks up quickly and gives the reader quite a ride. There are a lot of plot twists that I didn't see coming. The reader is kept guessing what will happen next. My attention was held throughout the book and I was up reading into the late hours to find out what happened next. There was no down time in this story at all. The characters and plot were very well developed. I really love the authors writing style and I can't wait to read more from him
